Greetings Brothers of the Omega’s Birthplace,
Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces. We also pay tribute to our fallen Omega Brothers whose courage, service, and sacrifice helped preserve the freedoms and liberties we enjoy each day. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has a proud military tradition, exemplified by founders Bishop Edgard A. Love and Frank Coleman, as well as Brigadier General Charles Young and many more.
Across the Commonwealth of Virginia and District of Columbia, citizens, veterans’ groups, and Third District chapters will commemorate Memorial Day by honoring those who gave their lives in service to our nation with the laying of a wreath at the headstone of our heroes.
On May 16th, I had the honor of attending Lambda Omega and Gamma Xi’s Annual Wreath Laying Ceramony at Historic West Point Cemetery (238 E. Princess Anne Rd., Norfolk, VA) remembering the African-American Civil War and Spanish–American War veterans as well as all veterans that paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. This small parcel of sacred land is separated from Elmwood Cemetery (same address) by a large wall ever reminding us of the freedoms, rights, and privileges these brave veterans gave their lives for. If you have not had a chance to visit this historic location in our District, please plan to do so and let us never forget their sacrifice.
Brothers of the Third District pause in remembrance of our fallen heroes and continue to honor their legacy and support the families they left behind.
May we never forget the generations of brave Omega Men and Americans who gave their lives so that others may live in freedom.
Lest We Forget.
