Newport News, VA – The brothers of Kappa Iota Iota (KII) Chapter, Third District, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated has worked in partnership with Newport News Public Schools Youth development program and The Achievable Dream Academy focusing on Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiatives. Young Men of Distinction (YMOD) Program focuses on academics, discipline, self-control, perseverance, and uplift. Attention is given to these principles through monthly academic modules, social activities, and community service projects.
Eight seniors from the 2020 graduating class, have participated in KII’s Mentoring Program since 2014. A few of their highlights include: attendance in Hampton Public Schools Conference for Boys, Newport News Public Schools Rise Conference for Boys, community clean-up projects at Aberdeen Gardens and Achievable Dream Elementary School, Mobile Food Pantry in partnership with Virginia Peninsula Food Bank, an Opera performance at the Ferguson Center of the Arts at Christopher Newport University, attendance in Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Memorial Breakfast, college tours at Hampton University and Norfolk State University, Annual YMOD Fatherhood Luncheon, bowling events, and college football games.
