Greetings Brothers!
Earlier today the Third District Voter Registration, Education, and Mobilization Committee sent a reminder that tomorrow, June 23, 2020 is election day in Virginia and provided useful information on how to cast your vote and exercise your democratic franchise. The Committee’s reminder made me recall an article written by Brother Dr. Robert L. Gill that appeared in the March 1946 Oracle titled “America…A Laboratory for Democratic Experiment.” Although published in 1946, some might agree that the article is strikingly relevant to the current political circumstance and related civic, and I dare say, moral dilemma we now face in this country. In fact, it could be source material for writers of speeches who are today aligned with the various and worthy movements for change.
In retrospect (knowing what we know now), Gill ended his thesis on an overly optimistic note; or perhaps his thesis was just a milestone on the long path to actualization. Perhaps I am now being overly optimistic. I sure hope not.
