Richmond, Virginia, Saturday, December 14, 2019, Upsilon Nu Chapter continues its partnership with 2nd Street Baptist Church to support “Feed the Less Fortunate” program. Upsilon Nu has continued its affiliation with this much needed community outreach effort. Feed the Less Fortunate program has been serving lunches to hundreds of area residents over the years. The program serves not only the homeless, but many that are economically challenged. The Upsilon Nu affiliation of the program is conducted on the 2nd Saturday of each month. The members of Upsilon Nu arrive at 10:00A.M. for set-up, assisting with the cooking and stay to the conclusion at 12:30P.M.
Upsilon Nu not only helps prepare and distribute healthy lunches, but makes it a point to sit and communicate with those that come to take advantage of the program when time permits. All of the people that come through the program have a story; most of them are middle aged men but we are starting to see women also. When possible during the meals we engage them in conversation.
“We look forward to seeing these men come out, they always have a kind word, I am sure they could be doing a lot of other things on their Saturdays than doing this, but they keep coming,” stated Mr. George Curtis one of the programs regular participants.
