Greetings Brothers of the Mighty Third District,
Memorial Day – Honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military, reflecting on the service and sacrifice of all our brave Omega Brothers and American fallen soldiers. Because of our fallen soldiers’ sacrifices, American citizens and others worldwide can enjoy the rights, liberties, and freedoms that are our foundational attributes of being an American. Omega Psi Phi has a rich military tradition, as demonstrated by our Brigadier General Charles Young, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s second honorary member.
Across the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia, in large cities and small towns, citizens, veterans’ groups, and our military affairs committee chapters will commemorate in their own way their patriotism, devotion, and commitment to honoring the original meaning of Memorial Day.
Benjamin O. Davis Sr. stated, “The privileges of American citizenship belong to those brave enough to fight for them.”
I ask the men of the Third District to salute our fallen heroes as we observe this Memorial Day and be mindful of those Brothers who paid with their lives, leaving family, friends, brothers, and loved ones behind. It remains the “duty of one brother to another” to preserve their legacy and keep their families uplifted.
A legacy over a century old, whenever freedom is threatened, gallant men and women of America risked, and too often gave their lives, in service to America. It is through their ultimate sacrifice America that continues to be a beacon of hope and freedom. Here is a salute to the generations of brave and courageous warriors.
May God bless you, your families, the Third District, and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.
