Bro. Daniel B. Jones, Sr., the 22nd Grand Keeper of Finance of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., was overwhelmingly elected, after a runoff, during the 80th Grand Conclave, held in Las Vegas, NV. He is a highly respected Senior Auditor in the Inspector General Office of the Department of Justice and is a credentialed Certified Fraud Examiner. Prior to his time at the Department of Justice, Bro. Jones served in the United States Army for 27 years, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2011.
Bro. Jones was initiated into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in 1989 through Xi Alpha Chapter, Fourth District, Charleston, WV. He has served in several positions, including Basileus and Keeper of Finance, Zeta Omega Chapter located in Cleveland, Ohio; and numerous committee chairman assignments and chapter advisory positions. As Basileus, Bro. Jones led an effort to provide food for more than 500 families during the holiday season. He also led a plan for the Divine Nine to feed residents of an impoverished area in Cleveland, Ohio, for a year.
At the District level, Bro. Jones was elected and served two terms as the Fourth District Keeper of Finance, and also served as Fourth District Chief of Staff to District Representative Bro. William M. Comeaux. As Chief of Staff, he was responsible for overseeing code of conduct issues affecting the district, staff synchronization and other tasks to extend the reach of the District Representative.
Bro. Jones’ service at the International Level of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is equally impressive. He served as the International Civic and Community Affairs Chairman and led an effort to synchronize and reduce duplication of effort for the international subcommittees under his care: (Achievement Week, Talent Hunt, Social Action, Educational Development, Next Generation Leaders and Katrina Relief.)
Most noteworthy, during and after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the committee worked tirelessly to locate and encourage dental, physical and mental health professionals to volunteer in the Gulf Coast Region. Bro. Jones recently teamed with other members of the fraternity to create the International Talent Hunt Foundation (ITHF) to ensure the perpetuation of local, district and international Talent Hunt competitions. He currently serves the ITHF as Director and Vice-Chairman. Bro. Jones served as the International Budget Chairman under the leadership of the 40th Grand Basileus. To date, budgets enacted by the Supreme Council for the International Undergraduate Summit and the International Leadership Conference have yielded profits for the fraternity as a result of the controls recommended and implemented by Bro. Jones.
Bro. Jones also serves on the Board of Directors for Friendship Foundation Inc. and Three Undergraduates Inc. which owns and manages properties utilized by our beloved Fraternity such as the Omega World Center and the Omega Corporate Residence. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the George M. Hampton Foundation.
Bro. Jones has dedicated his life to improving the quality of life in communities where he has served. He has been especially impactful in caring for children through his work with the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Center in North Central West Virginia. As the President of the Board of Directors, he led a team of counselors, rehabilitation specialists and psychiatrists to provide mental health services to children and other youth in underserved areas of West Virginia. Through this program, more than 200 teens received mental health care support, dramatically changing the course of their lives.
