Psi Nu Chapter, Third District, Strives to Help One Million Black Men Become Better Fathers & Mentors with Launch of Fatherhood Resource Center (FRC)

Alexandria, VA – The Brothers of the Psi Nu Chapter, Third District, of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. launched a virtual Fatherhood Resource Center (FRC) during June 2021, with a goal of supporting one million Black men and men of color be and become better fathers, father figures and mentors. The FRC was launched as a part of Psi Nu Chapter’s Fathers and Mentors Experience (FME), a month-long celebration of fathers, father figures, and mentors internationally.

Brother James Goodman, III (Psi Nu ‘20), was the originator of the idea of the resource center. Goodman shared, “Life doesn’t come with manuals and neither does fatherhood,” Goodman shared. Additionally, he stated, “Psi Nu Chapter wants to do all we can to uplift fathers and mentors and serve as the premier source of supportive content for them. Now, I’m even more excited to one day become a father myself.”

The Fatherhood Resource Center is available and will be a permanent fixture on Psi Nu Chapter’s website, and information will continually be added to increase its impact. Resources such as education on preventing child abuse, navigating critical development years for youth, strengthening the family, self-care, proper mental health, and where to connect with other fathers can all be found via the FRC. The chapter said the ultimate goal is to help brothers from all walks of life continue growing and providing leadership in their families and communities.

Brother Edward Hull (Psi Nu ‘17), chapter webmaster, who led the web creation of the FRC, said that although the FRC will be an ever-changing process, the Brothers of Psi Nu Chapter are up for the challenge. He shared, “The FRC is definitely something near and dear to a lot of the Brothers in the Chapter, Fathers new and old. The FRC will serve as a huge benefit to not only ourselves, but to our community as a whole.” He added, “We are looking to be a beacon of light when it comes to addressing Fatherhood in today’s world, and the FRC will be a major part of those efforts.”

Brothers Garrett James and Anthony Sutton were also influential in supporting the creation of the Fatherhood Resource Center.

The Brothers of Psi Nu Chapter invite the public to visit the resource center and also share information that can be added.
