Psi Nu Chapter Helps Hundreds of Families in Back-2-School Bash
Families Receive Haircuts, Backpacks, and School Supplies at No Cost

Alexandria, VA – The Brothers of the Psi Nu Chapter, Third District, of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. supported more than 200 families during an annual back-to-school supply giveaway, hosted by the Alexandria Redevelopment Housing Association. On Sunday, August 22, 2021, nine brothers attended the event that offered over $10,000 worth of free haircuts and hairstyles, backpacks, school supplies, and clothes for all ages. With the poverty rate of Alexandria, VA being over ten percent, the drive helped to ease the back-to-school burden for needy families. Other volunteers included: Alexandria Toyota Dealership, Chadwick’s Restaurant and Departmental Progressive Club.

Brother Melvin Stallings (Psi Nu ‘10) led Psi Nu’s participation in the event. He shared, “Psi Nu understands what the community needs. We feel that it is both an honor and privilege to support families in our community and give back at every opportunity that is available. Service is at the core of everything we do!”

The Brothers volunteered at two different locations – the Samuel Tucker Elementary School and the Charles Houston Recreation Center. This year, 2021, marks the 13th year that the Brothers of Psi Nu have participated in the community event.

Brother Anthony Sutton (Beta Delta Delta ’13 and the chapter’s Keeper of Records and Seal) stated, “We are always here to help! Omega men have always been dedicated to our youth, and it’s always a pleasure to serve the residents of Alexandria, VA.”

Participating brothers included: Donte’ Jiggetts, TraVaughn Lincoln, Drow Bell, Corey Griddine, Dennis Craig, Doug Lightfoot, and Reginald Ballard.
