Alexandria, VA – The Brothers of the Psi Nu Chapter, Third District, of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., in support of the Fraternity’s Father’s Day Initiative, hosted a virtual community discussion on Monday June 7, 2021 on the importance of fathers, father figures and mentors. With more than 80 attendees, the event was the kickoff event for Psi Nu Chapter’s Fathers and Mentors Experience (FME), a month-long celebration of fathers, father figures and mentors internationally.

Held as part of Psi Nu Chapter’s Your Power Book community discussion initiative, the event, entitled “#PsiNuQues Present: Real Superheroes-A Generation of Black Fatherhood,” was organized by Brother Zack Morse II, a father of two.

“Being a father is very important to me and too often, we do not have safe spaces to share resources or simply celebrate each other,” he said. “This is one step in that direction.”

Special guest panelists included: Ms. Alexis Dobbins, Creator/CEO of KidsNeeds2, a company that helps parents eliminate the drama and work better together; Brother Roger Hicks, (Psi Nu Chapter member), a native of D.C. and devoted husband and father; Brother Joe Howze, Sr., a dedicated husband and business owner; Ms. Samantha Russell-Porte, Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy at The Women’s Center, NOVA; and Brother Don Wright (Psi Nu Chapter member), loving father of three and retired police officer.

The session was moderated by Dr. DaVida L. Anderson, Founder and Executive Director of Strong Sister, Silly Sister, Inc., a not-for-profit organization committed to empowering college women to embrace ethical choices and become their best selves.

The following Psi Nu Brothers also gave greetings: Basileus John Gordon, Vice Basileus Donte’ Jiggetts, and Chapter Reporter Garrett James.

Brother James explained, “With a purpose of highlighting and uplifting the voices of Black fathers and mentors, Psi Nu Chapter is excited that the FME will be a series of programs and initiatives centered around Black fathers and mentors, bringing awareness, support and celebration!”
