Greetings Brothers!

I recently attended an International History and Archives Committee meeting and one of the topics of discussion was the upcoming chapter centennial celebration season. Nearly 100 years ago marked the beginning of an unprecedented period of expansion for the Fraternity. Over the next 2-3 years, roughly 15 undergraduate and 20 graduate chapters will celebrate their 100th year of existence.

What a milestone! These celebrations will be equally important occasions and opportunities for reflection and renewal. The discussion about the upcoming centennial celebrations occurred about the same time I read an article written by Brother Sterling Brown that appeared in the December 1923 Oracle titled “Fungus” (attached). In his article, Brown addresses the importance of honoring one’s legacy while also adding to one’s inheritance; the latter being critical should there be any expectation for and interest in a bicentennial celebration season.
