Gum Springs, VA.  Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter, Third District, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., was requested and instrumental in the distribution of the “Back-to-School Supplies” at the Gum Springs Community Center, County of Fairfax, Virginia.

On Friday, August 24, 2018, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Brother Kenneth M. Younger, the Chapter’s Social Action Coordinator, assisted volunteers Ms. Judy Garrett and her team of four ladies from the Gum Springs Community Center Senior Citizens Program, distribute the school supplies to an estimated 90 students supported by the center.

The supplies consisted of backpacks tailored by age loaded with school supplies.  Those desiring school supplies were accommodated in two ways, their parents had previously signed up for a backpack, and walk- in signups were allowed.

Our own Brother Marion “Barney” Barnwell, “Basileus Emeritus,” coordinated this important activity.  It was rewarding to see the parents and students delight as they received their donated school supplies and somewhat disconcerting that the need is so great for those who live on the economic edge in our county.

Once again, the presence of Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter at this event was rewarding and humbling as we helped so many students through “Uplift and Scholarship” as they are preparing to return to school.
