Tau Rho Scholarship Presentation 2017


On Thursday, May 11, 2017, The Tau Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in conjunction with the Rappahannock Regional Uplift and Scholarship Foundation awarded scholarships to two impressive young men from King George High School, King George, VA.  Tau Rho Chapter ViceBaslieus, Brother Lyndon Roane presented the awards on behalf of the chapter and foundation.  During the presentation Brother Roane provided a brief history of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and Tau Rho Chapter.  He talked on its commitment of serving the Greater Fredericksburg for more than 50 years and the chapter’s rich tradition of providing scholarships to deserving students in the Greater Fredericksburg while reaffirming the chapter’s commitment in awarding scholarships to African-American young men who embody Excellence, Leadership and Community Service.

This year’s award recipients were Mr. Justin Barnes who will attend George Mason University in Fall 2017.  The other recipient was Mr. Ryan Roane.  Mr. Roane is the son of Brother Lyndon Roane and will be a member of the Fall 2017 Freshman Class at Virginia Tech.

The Tau Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has served the Greater Fredericksburg for more than 50 years. Through its principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift, it remains a staple of community service through it signature programs such as: Passport-to-Manhood, voter registration, blood drives, Thanksgiving and Christmas basket donations to families in need and transition amongst other initiatives.
