Washington, D.C. – On September 23, 2017, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Mu Mu Chapter, participated in the American Diabetes Association’s DC Tour de Cure + Step Out Walk on the National Mall. This event is held annually to raise funds for educational programs, research, and advocacy regarding diabetes. As participants, Sigma Mu Mu brothers got their steps in during the 5K Walk. Their passion, energy and determination carried them to the finish line. As they walked, the brothers realized the impact and importance of the cause to stop diabetes. It is a cause that is near and dear to Sigma Mu Mu brothers because several of their family members have diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association’s goal was to raise $500,000. Sigma Mu Mu contributed over $800 in donations towards that goal. In doing so, the brothers raised awareness about diabetes, supported life-saving research, and helped those living everyday with diabetes. This is an example of Omega Psi Phi taking action for a worthy cause to stress the importance of health in our community.
