Sigma Kappa Kappa’s non-profit organization for social action, the Community Resource Opportunity Project (C.R.O.P.) Foundation, has selected an outstanding candidate to receive our first annual academic scholarship for post-secondary academic study. The recipient, Ms. Shanice Morgan, was awarded $1,000.00 to support her study at Roanoke College for the 2017-2018 academic school year. The C.R.O.P. Foundation is extremely proud of Ms. Morgan and we are excited to support her in her academic endeavors.
Ms. Shanice Morgan has distinguished herself through her academic preparation and service to her school/community. Ms. Morgan is a 2017 graduate of Oscar Smith High School, graduating in the top third of her class, with a 3.57 GPA. She is a 2017 Horatio Alger National Scholar and served as President of the Oscar Smith Literary Magazine. She was actively involved with her Theatre club, French club, and distinguished herself in many other activities both in school and in her community. Ms. Morgan has demonstrated great resilience in the face of hardship and has displayed an immense capacity for leadership. It is an honor to assist in the furtherance of her goals.
With the success of this initial fundraising endeavor, the C.R.O.P. Foundation will expand our efforts in 2018 to support other worthy students to pursue their post-secondary education and offer scholarships to students throughout the City of Chesapeake, VA.
The 2017 C.R.O.P. Foundation Scholarship Fund was established in 2016 to support students at Oscar Smith High School in realizing their educational goals. The scholarship seeks to recognize at-risk students who have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and community service.
The deadline to apply for the 2017 C.R.O.P. Foundation Scholarship Fund for the 2017-2018 academic school year was April 28, 2017.
The C.R.O.P. Foundation was created in 2016 by the men of the Sigma Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. to further social action programming in the City of Chesapeake, VA. The foundation is organized around three themes: 1) to raise funds for at-risk students for post-secondary education; 2) hunger relief for students and families; and 3) to mentor young people to best position them for success.
