Omega U provided volunteer support at the Special Olympics in Alexandria Virginia at Episcopal High School on Saturday April 28th, 2018. Young student athletes participated in ten stations designed to develop sports skills for young children of all ability levels. Omega U students provided support, encouragement, and played with the young athletes in several sports to provide an awesome experience for all. Omega U students managed game booths in Olympic Village on a beautiful Spring day in April and partook in snow cones to cool down.
The Special Olympics Northern Virginia Track and Field Finals has been hosted for 16 years at Episcopal High School in Alexandria Virginia. for the 16th year. Talented athletes participated in the 100-, 200-, 400- meter races; high jump; long jump; and shot-put. The Special Olympics holds a meaningful place in many people’s hearts due to its long history on The Holy Hill. Each year, Episcopal students are paired with a special olympics athlete as their “buddy.” Buddies are assigned the task of staying with and supporting the athlete throughout the day, whether they are on the track competing in their event or eating lunch together.
