Fairfax, VA – On April 28, 2018, the Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was honored by the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services for their “Man UP” Mentoring Program at the Warterford Hotel in Fairfax, VA.  We were awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for the Development of Community Programs at the Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony.

The purpose of the “Man Up” Mentoring Program is to pursue better educational attainment, professional development, and behavior management for the youth of Fairfax County, as they grow into manhood. The program is administered with a partnership of the Gum Springs Community Center located in Alexandria, VA.

Each month has a theme that each session will be based on.  Student sessions have also been incorporated into the program, where students work on their homework and get tutoring for subjects that they need help in.  The mentoring sessions take place every Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 7:30pm. The Chapter has organized weekly sessions which have included presentations from police officers, software developers, entrepreneurs, and corporate leaders.  As a result of the mentoring sessions as well as the study sessions, Brothers have noticed positive improvements in several of the mentees personal conduct, attitude, behavior, and
